The Social Security System (SSS) in the Philippines provides coverage for members who experience disability due to illness, injury, or any other condition that results in the inability to work. There are two main types of disability covered by SSS:
-
Permanent Disability - A condition that results in the total and permanent loss of physical or mental abilities, such as amputation, blindness, or paralysis.
-
Temporary Disability - A condition where a person is unable to work for a certain period, but there is a possibility of recovery, such as a severe injury or a prolonged illness.
SSS benefits for disability are based on the member’s contributions and the severity of the disability, which can be either partial or total. Members are eligible for benefits after having paid at least 36 months of contributions before the disability occurred.
