Is Ladakh the Best Place to Watch the Perseid Meteor Shower in India?

I’ve recently been researching the Perseid meteor shower India experience because I’ve always wanted to watch a proper meteor shower from a dark-sky location instead of city rooftops.

The more I read, the more it feels like Ladakh might actually be one of the best places in the country for this. Places like Hanle, Pangong, and Nubra Valley apparently have incredibly low light pollution and some of the clearest skies in India.

I also found this detailed page about Ladakh stargazing and honestly the photos and astronomy experiences look unreal, especially around meteor shower season.

Some Reddit users were also mentioning that Ladakh skies during meteor showers are on another level compared to most other places in India.

I’m thinking of planning a trip around August next year mainly for:

    • Perseid meteor shower viewing

    • Milky Way photography

    • telescope observation

    • dark-sky camping

    • astrophotography practice

Would love recommendations from anyone who has actually done a Ladakh astronomy or stargazing trip before.

    Also curious:

    • is Hanle really better than Pangong for night skies?

    • best dates around the Perseids peak

    • whether binoculars are enough for beginners

    • how difficult high-altitude night photography becomes there
