Is It Worth Buying a Fixer-Upper or Just Go for a New Home?

been looking at a few old houses, price looks good till you see what’s inside lol. old wiring, leaky roof, busted pipes, all hidden till you start tearing stuff apart. feels like a trap sometimes.

my buddy’s a construction cost estimator and he keeps saying most fixer uppers end up costing double. i kinda believe him now. anyone here actually pulled it off without going broke?
