Do Dating Adverts really help grow a dating site?

Dating Adverts always sounded like something only big dating platforms used, so I used to ignore them completely. I figured if the site had good features and some organic traffic, people would eventually find it. But after a while, I started wondering if I was missing something important.
The main problem I kept running into was growth. Getting the first few users on a dating website is surprisingly difficult. You might get a handful of signups from social media or referrals, but it slows down quickly. I noticed a lot of people in forums talking about traffic problems, and honestly it made me question whether my approach was too passive.
Out of curiosity, I started looking into how others were using dating adverts. Not in a big marketing campaign kind of way, just simple ad placements aimed at people who were already interested in dating platforms. What stood out to me was that the goal wasn’t just traffic. It was targeted traffic. People who actually wanted to try a dating service.
I experimented a little with different ad styles and placements. Some didn’t work at all. A few brought random clicks that never turned into users. But the ones that focused on clear messaging and simple signup pages actually did better than I expected. Nothing crazy overnight, but I did start seeing more real registrations instead of empty visits.
One thing I also noticed is that small adjustments made a difference. Changing the ad wording, testing different audiences, or even adjusting when ads were shown helped improve results slowly.
So from my experience, dating adverts are not some magic growth hack. But they can definitely help if your site already has a decent concept and you just need more people to discover it. I’d say they work best when you treat them as a way to reach the right users rather than just chasing large amounts of traffic.
