I am sick of waking up damp. Every time I go camping in the fall, the inside of my rainfly is soaking wet and my sleeping bag feels moist. I heard canvas tents fix this. Is it true or is it just marketing? I don't want to haul a heavy tent if it doesn't actually make a difference in comfort.

It is 100% true. Synthetic fabrics like polyester trap moisture from your breath, but canvas allows moisture to escape. This is crucial for Hot Tent camping especially. When you combine the breathable fabric with the dry heat from a wood stove, the interior stays bone dry. I switched to an RBM canvas tent last year and I have never had condensation issues since. You wake up with dry bedding and fresh air. It is heavier to carry, yes, but the comfort level is completely different. You won't regret the switch.
